Where the water appears tells you which part has failed. Jaquar's repair guide says drips at the spout come from the aerator, or from cartridge or valve seals inside the body. Water under the handle points to worn O-rings around the cartridge stem. A leak at the base of the spout points to that joint and its O-rings, and damp where the tap meets the basin points to the nuts and gaskets.

Weak flow has a different cause. Mineral deposits and sediment clog the aerator, so a tap mixer with a thin stream may only need that small screen cleaned or changed. Jaquar suggests soaking the aerator overnight in white vinegar, then scrubbing it gently. Follow your own tap maker's care instructions first, as finishes differ.

Homes on borewell water should expect more of this. The Central Ground Water Board maps the highest dissolved salts in parts of North Delhi, North West Delhi, West Delhi and South West Delhi.

A flush that never stops is usually a sealing fault. Crosswater's guidance says a worn inlet or flush valve seal is the normal cause, and that debris or limescale can stop the valve closing. A drainage blockage shows up first at the lowest point, which is often a balcony or bathroom floor drain. Rain in Delhi is also very uneven. IMD recorded 258.0 mm at Safdarjung in July 2026, which was 23% above normal. In the reading taken on the morning of 9 July, Mayur Vihar in East Delhi logged 164.0 mm against 72.6 mm at Safdarjung, so two homes can face very different loads.

A wash basin works the same way on a smaller scale. Hair and soap collect in the trap under a basin sink, and water then leaves slowly or smells. If every drain backs up together, or the lane manhole is overflowing, the fault may be in the sewer. That is a complaint for the Delhi Jal Board on 1916, not a home repair.

A motor that runs but delivers nothing usually has air in the pump or suction line. Priming removes it, and the run test confirms water is lifting. Motor air cavity removal is ₹99. Air that keeps coming back suggests a leak on the suction side, so ask for those joints to be checked. If the motor does not run at all, the fault may be electrical, so look at electrical services in Delhi.

Switch the motor off instead of leaving it running without water, and check the pump manual for the priming steps on your model. A new motor is ₹449 to fix on its base and connect to the suction and delivery pipes.

A water tank motor problem and a tank problem often arrive together. If the tank overflows, the float valve is the usual suspect, as it should close the inlet when the tank is full. Water tank repair is ₹99 and covers leaking fittings and the float valve. A new overhead tank is ₹699 to place and connect, including inlet, outlet and overflow.

One line needs care. A motor lifting water from your own underground tank to the terrace is one thing. A booster fitted on the service pipe is another. The Delhi Jal Board does not allow it without permission, and its regulations list disconnection, seizure of the pump and prosecution, so never ask any plumber to fit one.

Check the brand warranty before paying for a part. Jaquar says each of its faucets is backed by a 10-year warranty, so a newer branded tap may be worth a call to the brand first. Other brands set their own terms, so read the warranty card.

Repair makes sense when one part has failed and the body is sound, such as a worn seal or a clogged aerator. Replacement makes more sense when the tap body is cracked, the same leak keeps returning or the part for an old model cannot be found.
