Start with what you can see. Try the adapter in a second wall socket that you know works, and look along the cable, especially near both ends, for a kink or cut. If the adapter has a small light and it stays off in both sockets, the adapter or cable is the first suspect.

If the adapter seems fine but the battery percentage never climbs, the fault has moved inside the laptop. Charge that comes and goes when you wiggle the pin points to the charging port. A steady connection with no charge points to the battery or the charging circuit on the board.

Delhi's supply is often blamed first, and it is not always the cause. Apple rates its USB adapters for 100 to 240 volts, and DERC's limit keeps home supply at about 216 to 244 volts. Check the input range on your own adapter label. If the adapter died during a storm or a spark, say so at booking. If sockets are sparking or the MCB keeps tripping, that is a job for electrical services first.

Buying a new charger yourself? Match the wattage printed on the old one. If the label shows a BIS R-number, the BIS Care app lets you check it before you pay.

A swollen battery comes first because it is the one fault you should not keep using. Warning signs are a bulging case, gaps opening along the body, a laptop that wobbles on a flat table, or a lid that no longer closes properly. Dell says lithium-ion batteries can swell with age, charge cycles or high heat.

Dell's advice is to stop using the laptop, disconnect the adapter and let the battery drain. Do not press, bend or puncture the battery, and do not force it out. Book a check-up and mention the swelling, so it is known before the laptop is opened.

Fast drain is slower trouble. Dell says typical users notice shorter runtime after 18 to 24 months, and sooner with heavy use. On a MacBook, hold Option, click the Apple menu, open System Information and look under Power for the cycle count. Apple lists limits of 300, 500 or 1,000 cycles by model, and advises replacing the battery at that limit.

If you already have the right battery for your model, fitting it is ₹600 under component installation, with a test afterwards. If you need the part too, the check-up quote sets the cost, as prices vary by model.

With a blank screen, first connect the laptop by HDMI to a monitor or TV. A picture on the bigger screen usually clears the graphics and points to the laptop's own panel or its display cable. No picture on either points deeper, towards the board. If the TV shows nothing on any input, that is a separate TV repair booking.

Lines that shift when you move the lid suggest the display cable near the hinge. Fixed lines, black spots or pressure marks after a knock usually mean the panel itself is damaged. Dell lists black spots, LCD lines and pressure marks among damage its basic support does not cover.

For keys, plug in a USB keyboard. If that types normally, the laptop's keyboard or its connection is at fault rather than Windows. For a USB port, try the same device in another port. For sound, try headphones: clear audio there points to the speakers, and silence points to software or the board.

What you do in the first minute matters. Lenovo's advice is to unplug the adapter and turn the laptop off immediately, because stopping the current early reduces damage from short circuits. It also says not to turn the computer over to drain it, and to wait until you are certain the liquid is dry before switching on.

Do not test it to see if it still works. Book a check-up, choose physical damage or keyboard issue, and tell the professional what was spilled and when. Sweet tea and plain water do not leave the same residue, and corrosion can follow a spill. Dell lists motherboard corrosion from liquid among damage its basic support does not cover, so check your cover before you assume a brand will pay.

Apple says to use a Mac laptop where the room is between 10°C and 35°C. IMD recorded 45.1°C at Safdarjung on 19 May 2026, and the normal May high there is 39.9°C. So a room with no cooling in May can go past that limit before a fan even clogs.

When a laptop gets hot it speeds up its fan, and it may slow down or switch off to protect itself. Before you book, try it on a table, as Apple warns against beds, pillows and bedding. Do not leave it in a parked car either, and keep the vents clear.

If it still runs hot, book the service. The device is opened with care, the fans, vents and heat sink are cleaned, the keyboard and screen are wiped, and temperature and performance are checked afterwards. It takes about an hour: ₹699 for a Windows laptop and ₹999 for a gaming laptop or MacBook. Desktops are ₹599.

If heat returns soon after a cleaning, dust was not the whole story. Book the overheating check-up so the fan and temperature are tested properly. Heat also ages the battery, Dell notes.

Read the written quote against three things: how old the laptop is, whether its battery is near the end of its life, and whether it can run the software you need. A quote for a new battery on a sound laptop is usually easy to accept. A board repair on an old machine that misses the Windows 11 minimum is harder to justify. No fixed rule fits every case, so ask the professional which part of the quote matters most.

If the laptop is still under brand warranty, read the card before anyone opens it, and ask the brand in writing if you are unsure. A maker's defect belongs with the maker. Spills and knocks are often excluded, as Dell's list shows, and that is when an outside repair starts to make sense.
